Born in 1966 in the Amboseli ecosystem, daughter of Teresia, from the famous “T” family, renowned for producing many of the biggest tuskers in Amboseli. She died of old age in late 2023 at the age of 57. She was a fantastic matriarch with straight and symmetrical tusks pointing to the ground. She led her family through droughts and good times, and is believed to have given birth to 10 calves, who will hopefully carry her amazing genes. I first saw her in 2010 but my best sighting of her is dated February 2012, when she led her family across the dusty plains under a dramatic sky. I happened to be right on her path as she headed to the marshes. It’s still one of my most memorable sightings ever.
