Lugard was one of Tsavo’s greatest tuskers. He died in 2022 during a severe drought. He was probably in his mid-fifties when he died. His tusks reached the ground and were therefore levigated at the tip. After extensive searches I finally found him in early 2020, one of the first great tuskers I photographed in Tsavo for my book “Walk the earth”.
