CRAIG AND DUST-DEVIL

from US$4,050.00

Amboseli, 2024

Ever since I started visiting Amboseli in 2000, I was always fascinated by the hauntingly beautiful dust-devils that rise from the plains into the blue late-morning sky. These are small tornadoes that swirl across the plains painting beautiful curved shapes in the sky. And ever since then I have been trying and struggling to make a strong image of an Elephant with a dust-devil. Elephants were always too far, and with the dust-devils being very ephemeral, it was difficult to find a close one and position in time for the picture. Until one late morning in September 2024, just before my book Walk the Earth went to press, none other than Amboseli’s biggest tusker at the time, Craig, walked across a dusty plain where dust-devils were happening frequently, and the image I had envisioned for more than twenty years, finally came to life.
