Buchuma is a very secretive and hard to find great tusker. I would estimate his year of birth to be between 1980 and 1985. The second time I saw him, in 2021, his conditions were not great, due to a drought sweeping through the park. On my first encounter he was very shy, while the second time he was a bit more tolerant of my vehicle. I can recall how difficult it was to even take a portrait of him. He would not let me closer than a couple of hundred meters on my first sighting. His tusks are quite impressive when seen from the front as they are very thick and they spread out symmetrically. I hope to be able to see him again and to check how much have his tusks grown in the meantime.
