This is certainly one of my favourite images of the last couple of years. Two magnificent male Lions, Olope and Jesse 2, lying side by side after sundown, looking down into the plains. Unfortunately, a few months after this image was taken, the first Lion in the image has been involved in a fight with another male and died of the wounds. But this image lives on, forever.

A couple of Lions on honeymoon. After mating, the female turns and roars at the male who snarls back to her. The image captures an intimate moment, which highlights the double nature of a love story.

Hwange, 2022
Two of Africa’s most magnificent Lions standing together, side by side, in the endless wilderness of Hwange NP in Zimbabwe. I had been dreaming of taking a picture of them together for a long time, but these are such fleeting moments in Lions’ life, even if they often sleep together or nearby. This morning in October I found them relatively early in the morning, when they hadn’t gone to sleep yet. Humba first descended to a waterhole to drink but a couple of resident Hippos were not happy and chased him off. Netsai soon joined him and together they walked on a wildlife path to a clump of trees, perfect for their siesta. On the way, they posed for a few seconds, just for me to take this image.

Cloudy skies, soft evening breeze, darkness falling on the Serengeti. In the endless plains a magnificent dark-maned Lion awakes and looks around. His latest litters of cubs are tucked in safely in the rocks not too far away.

One of Africa’s most famous Lions, a magnificent male known as Bob Jr, who inhabits the open plains of the Serengeti. My first encounter with him dates back to 2016 and I have been mesmerized by his beauty and majesty on every encounter.

Sometimes in the wild compelling photographs may materialize in the least expected times. On this particular day in the late morning I spotted a couple of male Lions sleeping on top of a rocky outcrop, almost completely hidden by trees and bushes. I didn’t pay too much attention until suddenly the wind picked up strong, and this woke the Lions up. One of them raised his head up as if to pick a scent in the wind. I grabbed the camera and took the image. And then I forgot about it until much later, when I realized the intensity in the Lion’s eyes, the pose and the wind blowing his mane. The image had been there all along, just waiting for it to be rediscovered.
